Military/World War II
The Higgins Boat, or LCVP, is an iconic piece of World War II hardware. More than 20,000 were built with the express purpose of landing soldiers on foreign soil to establish a beachhead for an invasion. This craft most famously served this purpose on June 6th, 1944 when the Allies launched the largest invasion the world had ever seen to try and penetrate Hitler's Atlantic wall.
